Roof Lights Repair

A leaking roof light is almost always the upstand flashing, not the glass, we diagnose it properly before quoting.

Roof light problems usually come down to one of two things: a failed sealed unit causing misting between the panes, which needs replacing, or a flashing/upstand leak at the roof junction, which is a roofing repair rather than a glazing one. Frame drainage blockages can also cause water pooling or ingress at the sill.

Sherford Roofing repairs flat roof lights across Plymouth and Devon, correctly identifying which of these is the actual cause before recommending a fix.

Our Process

Step 1

Inspect the Rooflight

We check the glazed unit, upstand flashing and drainage to find the actual fault.

Step 2

Diagnose the Cause

Unit failure, flashing leak or drainage blockage are each identified separately.

Step 3

Repair the Fault

A failed unit is replaced, or the upstand/flashing is repaired at the roof junction.

Step 4

Confirm Watertight

The repair is checked to confirm the leak is fully resolved.

Roof Lights Repair FAQs

The sealed unit's gas fill has failed and the seal has broken, letting moisture in between the panes. This needs the unit replacing rather than cleaning.

More often the roof, flashing or upstand leaks at the junction with the surrounding roof covering are a more common cause of leaks than the glazed unit itself.

Yes, in most cases the glazed unit can be replaced within the existing frame and upstand.
