Metal Roofing Installation
Standing seam zinc and copper, or economical box profile steel, metal roofing installed to suit the building and the budget.
Standing seam is the dominant premium metal roofing method in the UK, interlocking raised seams create a fully weathertight, low-maintenance covering that can go down to very shallow pitches. Zinc and copper are the premium materials, with a long design life often quoted at 50 years or more, a self-healing patina, and very low ongoing maintenance.
For agricultural, industrial or budget-conscious projects, factory-coated corrugated or box profile steel gives corrosion resistance and quick installation at a fraction of the cost of standing seam, without the same premium finish. Sherford Roofing installs both across Plymouth and Devon, matched to the building and the brief.
Our Process
Specify the System
We confirm whether standing seam (zinc/copper) or box profile steel suits the building, budget and appearance you want.
Prepare the Deck
For a warm roof build, rigid insulation is fitted direct over the deck; for a ventilated build, a traditional cold roof structure with airflow is used.
Fix Panels
Standing seam panels are fixed with clips at the head and sliding clips down the pitch to allow for thermal movement; box profile sheets are fixed per manufacturer spacing.
Detail & Finish
Ridges, verges and junctions are dressed and sealed to complete a fully weathertight roof.

Zinc and copper standing seam systems are typically rated for 50+ years and often perform well beyond that with minimal maintenance.
Yes, standing seam zinc systems can go down to very shallow pitches, as low as around 3° with the right system, making it a strong alternative to a flat roof membrane on extensions and modern builds.
Standing seam is a premium, seamless, interlocking system for a high-end finish; box profile or corrugated sheet is a cost-effective, quick-fit option more common on agricultural and industrial buildings.
