Glass Roof Installation
Flat roof lanterns and rooflights installed to current thermal and safety regulations, bringing natural light into extensions and open-plan spaces.
Current Building Regs require a maximum U-value of around 1.6 W/m²K for glazed roof units, which in most standard configurations effectively requires triple glazing to comply, premium argon-filled units can push below 1.0 W/m²K. For safety, the inner pane of any overhead glazing must be safety glass that retains fragments if broken, so nothing falls into the room below.
Sherford Roofing installs glass roof lanterns and flat rooflights across Plymouth and Devon, specified to current Part L thermal and Part K safety requirements, common over kitchen extensions and open-plan living spaces.
Our Process
Specify Glazing
We confirm lantern or flush rooflight, size and glazing spec to meet Part L thermal performance for your project.
Form the Opening
The roof opening is structurally prepared with an upstand where required.
Fit & Seal
The glass unit or lantern is fitted and sealed to the upstand, with flashing dressed into the surrounding roof covering.
Check Compliance
The installation is confirmed against Part L and Part K requirements before completion.
Glazed roof units must meet a maximum U-value of around 1.6 W/m²K under Part L, and the inner pane of overhead glazing must be laminated safety glass under Part K, non-fragility classification applies where a rooflight may be walked on for maintenance access.
