Conservatory Roof Conversions
Too hot in summer, too cold in winter, noisy in the rain, a tiled conservatory roof conversion fixes all of it, usually without planning permission.
The near-universal complaints about glass and polycarbonate conservatory roofs are overheating in summer, losing too much heat in winter, rain noise, and condensation or glare. A conversion to a solid, insulated roof resolves all of these by removing the large glazed roof area and adding proper insulation, while keeping the conservatory's existing walls and base in most cases.
Replacing a conservatory roof is Permitted Development in the large majority of cases, since 2010, converting to a tiled or solid roof no longer needs planning permission in most circumstances, though Building Regulations approval is required since the change affects thermal and structural performance. Sherford Roofing carries out conservatory roof conversions across Plymouth and Devon using accredited lightweight tiled roof systems.
Our Process
Survey the Base
We assess your existing conservatory frame and base for load capacity before specifying the conversion.
Remove Existing Roof
The glass or polycarbonate roof is removed back to the wall plate.
Fit Insulated Tiled Roof
A lightweight, insulated tiled roof system is installed onto the existing structure, in most cases without needing to strengthen the base.
Finish & Sign Off
Internal plasterboard and skim complete the finish, with Building Regulations sign-off arranged as part of the project.
Planning permission is usually not required for a conservatory roof conversion under Permitted Development, but Building Regulations approval is required since the conversion changes the thermal and structural performance of the roof.
