Felt Roofing Repair
Blistering, split laps or worn mineral finish, felt roof repairs across Plymouth and Devon, fixed properly rather than just patched.
Felt roofs most commonly fail at the laps between sheets, from blistering caused by trapped moisture or gas, or from UV degradation wearing away the protective mineral surface on the cap sheet over time, after which the underlying bitumen degrades faster.
Sherford Roofing repairs felt roofs across Plymouth and Devon, whether that's a localised patch at a split lap or a wider assessment of whether the roof has reached the point where a full re-cover makes more sense than continued patching.
Our Process
Inspect the Roof
We check laps, upstands and outlets, plus the general condition of the cap sheet, to find the actual cause of any leak.
Diagnose the Fault
Split laps, blistering, or worn cap sheet are each identified before quoting a repair.
Repair the Area
The affected area is cut back and re-felted, bonded to match the existing system.
Check Surrounding Felt
The wider roof condition is assessed to flag whether further repairs are likely needed soon.
Felt Roofing Repair FAQs
Laps between felt sheets are the most common failure point, if the bond wasn't fully sealed originally, or has degraded with age and UV exposure, water can track in at that join.
It suggests the protective mineral surface has worn away, which leaves the bitumen beneath more exposed to UV degradation. It's worth having checked, as it often precedes more significant failure.
When failures are widespread rather than isolated to one lap or detail, or the felt is generally brittle and worn across the whole roof, Andy will give an honest assessment at survey.
