Chimneys Installation
From a full stack rebuild after storm damage to a new chimney on a heritage property, built and flashed to last.
A new or rebuilt chimney stack is only as good as its weakest detail, the flaunching at the top, the flashing where it meets the roof, and the mortar holding the brickwork together. Get any one of those wrong and the stack starts failing within a few years, not decades.
Sherford Roofing builds and rebuilds chimney stacks across Plymouth and Devon to the same standard whether it's a small residential stack or a large heritage property, with lead flashing installed to BS 6915 and flaunching profiled to shed water properly from day one.
Our Process
Survey & Specification
Andy surveys the existing stack (or the roof structure for a new build) and specifies brick, mortar and lead to suit the property and its exposure.
Rebuild or New Build
Brickwork is built up course by course to the correct height and profile, matching existing brick and pointing style on rebuilds.
Flaunching & Pots
The stack is finished with correctly profiled flaunching and chimney pots bedded and sealed to shed rainwater cleanly.
Lead Flashing
Step flashing and back gutter are dressed in Code 4 or Code 5 lead to BS 6915, tying the stack watertight into the surrounding roof covering.
Lead flashing is installed to BS 6915:2001+A1:2014 using Lead Sheet Association-guided detailing, correctly done, it is a permanent, decades-long fix rather than a recurring repair.
Chimneys Installation FAQs
Yes, we specify brick and mortar colour to match the existing stack and property as closely as possible, which matters particularly on Victorian and Edwardian housing stock and in conservation areas.
Yes, with care. These often carry restrictions on materials and appearance, particularly relevant for render, brick and lead specification. Any planning considerations are flagged at survey stage before work begins.
A straightforward partial rebuild typically takes two to three days including access and flashing work; a full rebuild on a larger stack can take longer, confirmed at survey.
