Felt Roofing Installation
A proven, cost-effective flat roofing system, three-layer built-up felt, installed correctly to actually earn its reputation.
Built-up felt roofing uses three bonded layers, an underlay, a reinforcing layer, and a mineral-surfaced cap sheet, applied by torch-on (heat-welded), pour-and-roll (hot bitumen bonded) or cold self-adhesive methods, in line with BS 8747 guidance on design and application. High-performance polyester-reinforced felt systems typically outperform older bitumen felt significantly on lifespan and flexibility.
Sherford Roofing installs three-layer felt roofing across Plymouth and Devon on garages, extensions and outbuildings, where it remains one of the most cost-effective flat roofing options when installed correctly.

Torch-on felt is bonded with a gas torch melting the underside as it's laid; pour-and-roll uses hot bitumen poured ahead of the roll instead. Both create a fully bonded system, the right choice depends on the specific project and site conditions.
