Asphalt Roofing Repair

Crazing and hairline cracking on an ageing asphalt roof is common, most is cosmetic, but it's worth checking before it becomes a leak.

Mastic asphalt is extremely durable, but it can develop surface crazing and hairline cracking as it ages and weathers, most of this is cosmetic and doesn't affect waterproofing performance, but deeper cracking, blistering, or damage at upstands and outlets can let water through and is worth addressing.

Sherford Roofing repairs mastic asphalt roofing across Plymouth and Devon, reworking damaged sections by hand to match the existing surface and restore full waterproofing performance.

Our Process

Step 1

Survey the Surface

We assess whether cracking is cosmetic surface crazing or a genuine breach reaching the waterproof layer.

Step 2

Cut Out Damage

Any failed area is cut out back to sound material.

Step 3

Re-Apply Asphalt

Hot mastic asphalt is re-applied in the repaired area, matched to the existing thickness and finish.

Step 4

Finish & Blend

The repair is finished to blend with the surrounding roof and restore a consistent, fully waterproof surface.
