Liquid Plastic Roofing Installation

Cold-applied liquid systems that cure to a seamless membrane in place, ideal for awkward detailing and overlaying an existing roof.

Liquid roofing systems, PMMA (fast-curing, brands like Triflex) and polyurethane (PU, brands like Kemper System and Sika), are applied cold by roller, brush or spray and cure in place to form a seamless, fully bonded waterproof membrane, reinforced with fleece for added strength. They're particularly well suited to complex detailing around upstands and penetrations that are awkward for sheet membranes, and to overlaying an existing failing roof without a full strip-off.

Sherford Roofing installs liquid roofing systems across Plymouth and Devon, with fast-curing PMMA systems in particular minimising downtime on occupied commercial buildings, some can be walkable within an hour of application.

Our Process

Step 1

Prepare the Surface

The existing roof or deck is cleaned and prepared, including priming where an overlay is being applied.

Step 2

Reinforcing Fleece

Fleece is bedded into the first liquid coat at joints, upstands and detailing to add strength.

Step 3

Apply Liquid Coats

The liquid membrane is applied by roller, brush or spray in the specified number of coats to build full thickness.

Step 4

Cure & Finish

The system cures in place to a seamless, fully bonded membrane, with a top coat for UV protection and finish.

In many cases yes, one of the advantages of liquid systems is that they can often be applied over a sound existing roof as an overlay, avoiding the cost and disruption of a full strip-off.

It depends on the system, fast-curing PMMA products can be walkable within about an hour, while polyurethane systems typically take longer, which is a factor in choosing the right system for a time-sensitive project.

Yes, because it's applied as a liquid rather than a sheet, it flows into complex shapes and awkward junctions far more easily than a membrane system, which is one of its main advantages.
