Dry Verge Repair
Water staining down a gable wall almost always starts at a failed verge, we fix it with a mechanically-fixed system that stays fixed.
Whether your roof still has an old mortar-bedded verge or an existing dry verge system has come loose in a storm, a failed verge lets wind get under the roof edge and water track down the gable wall, exactly the failure mode the current British Standard was updated to prevent.
Sherford Roofing repairs failed verges across Plymouth and Devon, converting mortar-bedded verges to a compliant dry-fix system where appropriate, so the fix doesn't recreate the original problem in a few years' time.
Our Process
Inspect the Verge
We check whether it's cracked mortar or a dislodged dry-fix unit causing the problem, and look for any water damage already tracking into the roof structure.
Remove Failed Section
Failed mortar or damaged verge units are removed back to a sound fixing point.
Fit Compliant Repair
In most cases we convert to a mechanically-fixed dry verge system rather than re-bedding in mortar.
Confirm Watertight
The repaired verge is checked to confirm it sheds water cleanly away from the gable wall.
Dry Verge Repair FAQs
This is a classic sign of verge failure, either cracked mortar or a loose dry verge unit letting water track down the wall instead of shedding away from it.
It depends on the damage. If the unit itself is undamaged and simply dislodged, it can often be re-fixed; if it's cracked or the clips have failed, replacement is the reliable option.
In most cases, yes, converting to a compliant dry-fix system while the verge is already being worked on avoids paying for the same mortar repair again in a few years.
