Fibreglass (GRP) Roofing Repair

A cracked GRP roof is almost always a deck movement problem, not a laminate problem, we fix the actual cause, not just the crack.

Cracking is the most common GRP roof problem, and it's almost always caused by movement in the deck beneath the laminate rather than a failure of the fibreglass itself. Repairing the visible crack without addressing the underlying deck movement usually means the same crack reappears within a season or two.

Sherford Roofing repairs GRP roofs across Plymouth and Devon, checking deck fixing and stability as part of every repair, so the fix actually lasts rather than papering over a structural cause.

Our Process

Step 1

Inspect Deck & Laminate

We check whether deck movement is causing the cracking before repairing the laminate itself, fixing the crack alone doesn't solve a movement problem.

Step 2

Stabilise the Deck

Any loose or moving deck boards are re-fixed to give the laminate a stable base.

Step 3

Repair the Laminate

The cracked area is ground back and re-laminated with fresh resin and matting.

Step 4

Reapply Topcoat

A colour-matched UV-stable topcoat completes the repair.

Fibreglass (GRP) Roofing Repair FAQs

Almost always movement in the deck beneath the laminate, rather than a fault in the fibreglass itself, which is why we check deck fixing as part of any crack repair.

Not if the underlying deck movement causing it is addressed at the same time, repairing the laminate alone without fixing the deck is the main reason GRP cracks reappear.

Yes, where the laminate itself is sound but the topcoat has become dull or chalky from UV exposure, it can be renewed on its own.
